About NYAMA Print Email

The New York Aviation Management Association (NYAMA) is a non-profit association of airport management officials with members from related State government agencies, planning boards, consultants and equipment manufacturers. NYAMA was formed in 1976 by representatives of New York State airports. NYAMA remains devoted to promoting airport development and representing the needs of the entire aviation industry.

NYAMA, is the only nonprofit, open membership organization in New York dedicated to preserving and enhancing the safety and capacity of New York's airports and airways. As many people may not realize or appreciate the role and economic value provided directly by New York's airports, NYAMA has sponsored the Legislative Gazette to help raise public awareness of the vital role airports play in the state economy and transportation infrastructure.

NYAMA is dedicated to ensuring that the potential of all airports in the state system is fully realized to support essential air service functions of New York's local and regional communities. In terms of economic impact, the State Department of Transportation estimates that the state's airports generate over $31 billion annually relating to the movement of both freight goods and passengers.

Founded in 1976 by members of various New York State airports, NYAMA has grown to over 150 members representing public airport officials as well as consulting engineers, architects and service professionals from all walks of the aviation community, from regional hubs and small private airports to LaGuardia and JFK International, among the world's busiest facilities.

What We Do

NYAMA serves as a clearinghouse of information for its members, sponsoring informative seminars and conferences, and publishing periodic updates and newsletters on timely aviation industry issues allowing members to get updates on cutting edge technology and the latest in airport management and operations as presented by leading federal and state agency officials as well as engineering, and equipment manufacturing representatives..

It provides direct support for smaller airports whose future may be in jeopardy. NYAMA's Board of Directors serve as advocates for the essential cargo and air service provided by New York's public and private airports. In addition to demanding jobs in airport management, design, equipment or services, NYAMA's members actively recruit new members and interested audiences.

The association also educates public officials about airports' roles as a critical element of New York State's economic infrastructure. These government relations ensure the continued commitment of State & Federal funds to operate, maintain and invest in capital improvements at airports and to promote a safe, environmentally sound and efficient air transportation system throughout the state. For example, NYAMA has made progress towards the establishment of a permanent dedicated aviation fund to finance capital improvements at airports.

NYAMA's government relations effort includes active lobbying by professionals to educate legislators and policy makers of the needs of the aviation industry. The association maintains an office only a few blocks from the Albany State Capitol.
